A wonderful show with Chinese ethnic characteristic
The curtain just fell on Memory 5D+, a creative art show of Chinese intangible cultural heritage at Beijing Century Theater. What made this show come through and become a focus and hot spot among the varied and colorful performance market in Beijing?
Memory 5D+ frames a story of love that speaks about Chinese philosophy and poetic flavor, featuring 27 intangible cultural heritage arts include live performance of instruments such as guzheng(zither), konghou (Chinese harp), Chor, matouqin, pipa (Chinese lute), hujia as well as rare instruments such as damudi (cowboy flute), gijak, topshur, and yekele, and performing arts such as Chinese acrobatics, Khoomei, Tibetan folk songs, Mongolian long tune, 12 Dolan Muqam, as well as singing of Book of Songs. Memory 5D+ created a perfect fusion of multiple arts and technology in the theater as well as an entirely new way of audiovisual entertainment.
Memory 5D had its World Premiere at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Los Angeles over two performances on May 25 and 26, 2017, and both performances were packed out. Staff in Consulate General of the PRC in Los Angeles, famous film producer in Walt Disney Pictures, reporters and commentators of major media, and lots of art lovers came to see the show with admiration. With such "hypercritical" audiences, the curtain call of Memory 5D+ lasted over 20 minutes unexpectedly and touchingly.
The whole house rose to its feet to applaud for 22 minutes. For safety concern, the director had to long-lasting interrupt the applause which not only broke the previous year's record of the theatre but also showed us the charm of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. Memory 5D+ has therefore won lots of awards from the US government.
In order to add more favorable factors to Memory 5D+ for foreign audiences, Memory 5D+ has a strong production team with a world class cooperation. This creative art show of Chinese intangible cultural heritage is a large-scale creative performance project presented by China Film HuaTeng with an international production team engaging creators from China, the US, the UK, and France. John Hughes, visual director of popular films such as Kung Fu Panda 2, Spider-Man 3, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Shrek Forever After, Frozen, Zootopia, I Am Legend, and Watchmen, was attracted by the unique story and art content. He fully participated in the creation and served as the visual director of Memory 5D+ using his special presentation method.
The stage backdrop Memory 5D+ was designed and created by world renowned Creative Designer Tom E. Marzullo, who has created, designed and directed international tours for superstars including Justin Bieber, Prince (famous American singer), Jay-Z (famous American hip-hop singer), Bugs Bunny on Broadway, and George Benson.
Ulan Xuerong, the founder and general director of Memory 5D+ believes that culture must show off itself and let the world see it. If China's culture is to head to the world, it must have international factors in its genes so that people from other countries would accept and enjoy it. Chinese culture's beauty would be spread all over the world rather than only seen at home.
