Thirty years of artistic experience, a strong sense of responsibility over the national culture and an exceptionally sharp acumen for the market have not only granted her a steady flow of creative ideas on the stage interpretation of Memory – the world tour performance of China’s intangible cultural heritage arts, but also enabled her to exquisitely and audaciously adopt the new stage performing art form “STARI+” to present Chinese stories with an international way of production.
The character and talent of an innovative director will ultimately determine the personality of a work. Memory belongs to Ulan Xuerong alone from the sense of temperament and soul, in the same way that Apple belongs to Steve Jobs. Ulan Xuerong possesses outstanding intelligence, excellent professionalism, lofty aspirations and unlimited creativity, all of which is embodied in the highly individual characteristics of Memory.
I. Highlighting artistic heritage
People’s first impression on Ulan Xuerong is that she is intellectual and reserved. According to the media, “she is born with a kind of unique charisma. And it has granted her a strong ability to conquer.” She started to learn the art of music when she was very young, and one of China’s most renowned art educators used to be her vocal music teacher. In the past thirty years of her career as an artist, she has received a lot of state-level awards in the field of musical arts. So far, no one else in the Inner Mongolia region has surpassed her remarkable achievements in the field of professional vocal music. She has also obtained notable achievements in teaching vocal music. Moreover, she has shown her talent in the development of the cultural and arts industry. The projects originally created and planned by her, such as the bespoke cultural tourism, have started a new development model of the cultural industry and caused a large number of people to follow suit. In recent years, she has been dedicated to the research and development of the arts of intangible cultural heritage. She is the planner of “5D+” Memory, a world carnival of intangible cultural heritage and a large-scale performance show of the artists’ live performances. It is another work of stage art that highlights artistic heritage applying her years of artistic experience.
II. Recruiting hundreds of artists
In order to present to the audience the most refined and most original artistic gems of intangible cultural heritage in a three-dimensional way through the stage, Ulan Xuerong has even unprecedentedly signed up one hundred top artists of China. The one hundred associated artists include, among others, Qi Baoligao, a world-famous Morin Khuur master; Li Hong, the only inheritor of the combined skills of Large Reed and Maodun Chor (Hujia); Hasi Bagen, a young artist; Bodi Musical Group, Urtyn Duu performing artists; Li Bojie, the third-generation successor of Li’s Guqin; Arken Abdulla, a performing artist of Xinjiang Uyghur Muqam; Ji Baojie, a performing artist of Guzheng; Lu Lu, a Konghou performer and Lucina Yue, also a Konghou performer. They are all outstanding figures in the field of art performance. These one thousand more protected projects of intangible cultural heritage represent the finest, most gorgeous and most eye-catching components of traditional Chinese culture, and these one hundred artists are none other than the epitome of our national intangible cultural heritage.
III. Striving for extreme perfection
Ulan Xuerong has led her team to carefully select and study each of the “intangible cultural heritage” arts in Memory. With fascinating stories of families and nations lying behind them, these “intangible cultural heritage” arts have been passed down from generation to generation, accumulated and precipitated for thousands of years before today’s greatness. They are not only the treasures of China, but also the miracles of the world. Achieving extreme perfection in things of her interest is the ultimate pursuit of her life.
IV. Creating a stage form
Ulan Xuerong has created a new stage performing form in the world – “STARI+”, which is a large-scale integrated creative performance form integrating “Story, Technology, Art, Real and Interactive+”. The uniqueness of Memory lies in that it cannot be accurately defined by any current stage performance, as it is not only a highly ornamental large-scale show with comprehensive art forms, but also an ambitious opera with complete form and story content. It is undoubtedly bold to adopt “STARI+”, a new stage performance mode. However, after learning more about Ulan Xuerong, we can understand that Memory is not a novice attempt but an appropriate novel expression found by a mature artist.
Ulan Xuerong utilizes the “5D+” stage art concept in Memory, including 3D visual dimensions (the program uses 3D holography, 3D modeling, VR and other technologies to enhance the performance of artists), 7.1 sound channel dimensions (all the music of the program is produced using 7.1 sound channel that brings shocking audio-visual effect and immersive experience), olfactory dimensions (the audience can experience the aroma of nature in some programs), and “+” (Plus, which represents the infinite possibilities by appropriately integrating the cultures, features and music of different countries, different ethnic groups and different regions).
V. Forging the ecological model layout
With 30 years in the artistic career, Ulan Xuerong is an artistic knowledge-based entrepreneur in the age of internet. Her original aspiration of creation is to follow the guidance of the Taiji and yin-yang philosophy, respect the original ecology and spirituality of China’s “intangible cultural heritage” arts, and keep up with the development of science and technology. She has been adhering to the idea that “science and technology is only a tool to enhance the performance of artists and highlight the original state of “intangible cultural heritage” arts. With years of experience in business management and a keen entrepreneurial vision, Ulan Xuerong has forged China’s intangible cultural heritage IP ecosystem that takes “intangible cultural heritage” art masters as the logic and covers education, Showtime live streaming, Memory mall, shows, movies and custom-tailoring of garments. She adheres to the personalized service mechanism which places user experience at a core position, treats the community as the development momentum, connects all related resources, and is driven by big data.

She stated that as long as you maintained your mindfulness or reminded yourself to do so, you would have focused on the present and become even-tempered and good-humored. She has always been reminding herself to focus on her work, stay alert and awake, be prepared to cope with any eventuality and act according to circumstances. In both work and life, she has always been holding on to the principle of not being anxious when failing to reach the target but learning from and enjoying the process of positive observances of the moment.
