John Hughes is a writer, director and visual effects expert. He is the author of the upcoming movie, Vivisection. Working for leading film production companies such as Sony, Dreamworks and Disney, John has provided visual effects on several major feature films. Among his feature film credits are Frozen, Moana, Big Hero 6, Kung Fu Panda 2, The Croods, Shrek Forever After, Spider-Man 3, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkeban, Watchmen, and I am Legend.
Both of Disney's features films Frozen and Big Hero 6 won the Academy Award for Best Feature Animation. In addition, both The Croods and Kung Fu Panda 2 made by Dreamworks were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Feature Animation. The feature films that John has worked on have won numerous industry awards for visual effects. Many of the movies are also huge box office successes. Seven of the feature films are among the top 100 biggest all-time grosses: Frozen ($1.28 billion), Zootopia ($1.02 billion), Spider-Man 3 ($891 million), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkeban ($797 million), Shrek Forever After ($753 million), Kung Fu Panda 2 ($666 million), and Big Hero 6 ($658 million).
John has worked for film companies in England, China, Canada and the United States. In Canada, John worked on the largest animated film production ever made in that country, The Wild. John was responsible for building complex and significant parts of the production pipeline. He automated many processes which greatly sped up film production and significantly reduced costs.
John has three academic degrees including a PhD in Artificial Intelligence. John has a keen interest in Chinese Culture so he was delighted to have the opportunity to write the story for the hugely innovative Memory 5D project.
